The Papua New Guinea Road Fund (PNGRF) has commenced operations following the gazettal of the Road (Management and Fund) Act 2020. The Fund is mandated to oversee the collection, disbursement and monitoring of road user revenues for the maintenance of PNG's national road network.
"This is a historic milestone for Papua New Guinea's infrastructure sector," said the Minister for Works. "For the first time, we have a dedicated, ring-fenced source of finance for road maintenance, governed by an independent statutory authority."
The Fund will be governed by a Board of Directors comprising representatives from the public sector, private industry and civil society. The Board is expected to be sworn in within the coming months.
